Frogspawn

1st March 2009 | Southlands Farm News

On Sunday the ribbiting of frogs in the pond became do loud that I had to go and inspect. The pond was full of our little slug munching friends, and the only thing they were interested in was making frog spawn, and I was able to to get very close by creeping up slowly, normally if you so much as walk past they all disappear.

It is a lucky accident that the pond is so near to the vegetable garden, as the frogs tend to eat most of the slugs in the early part of the year, when others are cursing the slugs we wonder what they are on about. However there is a Heron who is a regular visitor and enjoys frogs and so the slugs return at the end of the season.

  1. Really like the new look for the blog. Perhaps I’ll get some frogs for our back garden and do away with the pesky slugs.
