Ruby and Mr Piggy have six little piglets!
Ruby decided to have the piglets outside in the pig house with Mr Piggy and Poppy her sister all close by. It was as if the other two pigs were on guard outside the house. Piglets are amazing they are born all ready to go! Busy from the first moment. There are four boys and two girls all with wonderful markings. We have named them all…Diamond, Ebony,Tinker,Jigsaw, Spot and Jet! We moved Ruby into one of the new stables for a bit more space and they have a wonderful time roaming around the field during the day, usually getting into mischief! and go to bed in the stable at night. Now they are five weeks old and very amusing. I have just had to put short mesh all around the vegetable patch and stable yard as I caught them having a party eating my young lettuce plants and tossing other seedlings to one side! Eighty pounds later they are safely contained the problem was I had not counted on them getting under the post and rail fencing.
Ruby is being a fantastic Mum and while the weather was hot she loved to be hosed down and covered herself in a layer of mud and wallow …. a very happy pig! Rosie made a fantastic poster and we placed it in our local Farmway, West Cumberland Farmers and in our local newspaper The Hexham Courant. We had a good response and now all the piglets are going to go to homes in a few weeks time……But Poppy pig is now heavily pregnant and I think she will be due any day soon……..anyone out there fancy a piglet or two!!!!
