What sort of beetle is this?

Dee found this fellow by the pond, he is dark green and huge, does anyone know what he is?

This takes me back to my first year of uni. It looks like Dytiscus marginalis, a diving water beetle. It appears to have rear legs shaped a little like paddles tucked away and finding it near the pond would corroborate.
I believe they’re edible, if things get really bad.
Thank’s for that Nick, I do believe you are right. I don’t know about eating him, Dee thought he was going to eat her!
