What sort of beetle is this?

Dee found this fellow by the pond, he is dark green and huge, does anyone know what he is?

    It’s a tasty snack!

    This takes me back to my first year of uni. It looks like Dytiscus marginalis, a diving water beetle. It appears to have rear legs shaped a little like paddles tucked away and finding it near the pond would corroborate.

    I believe they’re edible, if things get really bad.
