The Showman’s journey begins….

6th April 2015 | Southlands Farm News

Two days ago Charles and I took possession of a 28ft 1942 original showman’s wagon something we have dreamed of owning for quite some time. It arrived on a low loader lorry all the way from Devon to our 37 acre small holding here in Northumberland . Although it needs major restoration It is in amazing original condition for its age. Inside it has walnut veneer a tiny desk with original metal safe below.A pink and cream(Love it!) Formica kitchen, original light fittings, wardrobes, chest of draws and beautiful Mollycroft roof lights with original etched glass windows thought to name a few features.
You our friends and guests love all that Northumberland has to offer and we think the Showman’s wagon will be a wonderful addition  to our existing  accommodation and also give a new dimension, the experience of living in an original 1942 showman’s caravan out  in our open fields.
With Charles’s skills as a classic car restorer and mine in art and a big big chunk of enthusiasm we are undertaking the restoration of this amazing vehicle ourselves with the help of a local joiner James Feeley who lives in our village. I am going to write this blog about it’s and our journey from start to finish and greeting our very first guests. I am already  having fun researching 1940 textiles for curtains and authentic finds.
We think it will be a very interesting and rewarding  project I think we are a little mad ( many of you will know we are!)  but I know she is worth saving and we just thought you may be interested in traveling this road with us!  Here are the first photos the start of The Showman’s and our journey…….
