Spring has sprung at Southlands
Last week we welcomed three new arrivals to the Southlands Dexter herd.
Celtic and Tulip both gave birth to two bull calves last Monday followed by Victoria producing a little heifer on Wednesday. The trio are happy and healthy and enjoying some some much needed sun after the snowy weather. These three lovely Mums are now 13-15 years old, having lived together here at Southlands for over 10 years and with a little TLC are still enjoying life and producing fantastic calves.
Next to calve is Summer, Victoria’s eldest daughter. She seems in no rush but we will keep our fingers crossed for the next addition to the herd!
The Dexter herd was established at Southlands in 2004 by Charles and Dee as part of their smallholding enterprise in Northumberland. The couple care passionately about sustainable farming and the need to produce quality food to high welfare standards.
Over the years the herd has grown from small beginnings to an established herd, producing quality meat for Southlands Farm Shop and local pubs such as the renowned Feathers Inn at Headly on the Hill. Please find more information on the ‘Southlands Farm Shop’ Facebook page.
