Fresh Start for Hens…
Yesterday I went on a road trip with Widget the terrier. She behaved impeccably considering there were birds flapping in the back of the landrover!
Our mission was to collect Ten ex battery hens . Given to me as a surprise Birthday present from Rosie and Doug. Their adoption supports a very worthwhile scheme “Fresh Start for Hens” re homing ex battery hens to give them literally a new life.
Once home we gave their feet a bath, wormed them, treated them for mites then introduced them to their new home. Deep shavings on the floor and nest boxes full of hay. A plentiful supply of layers pellets, mixed corn and water and then we shut them in to acclimatise.
This morning we were rewarded with four shiny eggs!
We are looking forward to letting them roam free and supplying our Cottage guests with lovely fresh free range eggs for their welcome baskets.If you think you could give some hens a new start contact https://freshstartforhens.co.uk
