Garden Open Day at Southlands Farm
On Sunday 17th of July we are opening the gardens at Southands to the public for the first time since we started creating them 32 years ago. The garden has been a labour of love for us and has grown in stages over the years, and now spans over 1.5 acres. When we came to Southlands, there was a vegetable plot and Gunnertons’ first flushing outdoor loo in the corner. Much has changed and there are now several gardens including herbaceous borders, cutting beds and more…
We are tree lovers, planting hundreds over the years, along with hedges to encourage the wildlife and created a sheltered haven.
Last year we signed up to the wfga_uk garden scheme and took on Beth, a student keen to get into a career in gardening. This new addition coincided with our daughters wedding gave us a fantastic excuse to enhance the garden into a fabulous venue.
It now seems only right to share our creation and we look forward to welcoming you all on the 17th.
The garden will be open from 10am until 5pm and we will have teas, coffees and home baked cakes for sale. Entry is £4 cash with children FOC. Dogs are very welcome on leads. We will have water available for them too.

We’ve built the cottages to be as environmentally friendly as possible. This includes using renewable energy, composting, growing our own food, supporting local producers, and plating one hundred trees!
